Wow. A DECADE of Wedding Photography. Where did that time go?!?! This is a blog post I had planned to write and publish at the end of last year/start of this year…but I had an even busier end to 2019 and start to 2019, so didn’t quite get there! But it turns out there’s a bit more time to do these kinds of things at the moment, so here it is!
The downside of putting this together during lockdown, is that there are actually quite a few weddings from the last decade actually missing…my hard drive’s full of archived weddings are kept in storage, which obviously I can’t get to at the moment, so I’ve decided to go ahead with what I do have available to me with the very best intentions of updating this post as and when we get back to a bit of normality.
So please don’t be offended if your wedding doesn’t feature – it’s not because I didn’t think it was awesome, it’s because I can’t get my hands on it right now!
Skip to the end of the post for an epic list of thank you’s and more of my musings over this last wonderful Decade of Wedding Photography, but for now, enjoy one photograph from weddings ranging from 2010 to 2019. No explanations. No details. Just images I personally love from all of these incredible wedding days…
Well, there we have it. A Decade of Wedding Photography in one single blog post!
I have some incredible memories of these weddings I have been lucky enough to work at and be involved in. I’ve shot weddings all over the UK in these past 10 years (and before that too!) as well as weddings in New York, Ibiza, Mallorca, Santorini, France, Portugal and loads more! What a job this is!
But it’s been a lot of the weddings closer to home that give me the most to be thankful about. The people I’ve met along the way, the wedding suppliers who have become friends, the people I’ve been working with for over 15 years now who continue to bring their A game to every single wedding they are involved in. These guys are the ones I need to thank. For recommending me, for saying nice things about me, for sharing my work on social media so more people see it. It’s so kind of them all and hugely humbling.
But first I need to say thank you to Emma. For always believing in me and that when I left my ‘proper’ job all those years ago, giving me the confidence in myself to dive head first into this wonderful industry and really make a business out of taking pictures. And for giving us Alfie. He’s amazing. Just like his Mum.
To my Mum & Dad – who were right there alongside Emma when I wondered whether I could leave employment and have a go at being my own boss. Thank you for your unwavering love, support, advice and for always being there for us. You’ll never know how much it means. And to my sisters – love you guys xxx
Emma’s family have always been so kind with their love and support where my work is concerned so a massive thank you to them too
Wedding friends who have become real life actual friends for your sins. Thank you. Howard & Sam (Howard Wing Weddings), Tom & Laura (Tom Harrington Films), Andy & Jane (Andy Murphy DJ), Ellie & Harry (Ellie Sax & Light it Up Events), Sian & Steve (The Flower Lounge) – a special mention to you guys for being so much fun to work with but even more fun to hang out with. Love you.
I should also throw in a shameless plug to Emma’s very own stunning wedding business, LOVE Bridal Boutique. 8 years old this year. Endless awards to her name. And STILL works her arse off for every single one of her beautiful brides.
The Higham Family at Styal Lodge. You are awesome. You have done so much for Emma and I. Thank you will never be enough.
My great friends at Colshaw Hall & Merrydale Manor – thank you for putting me in front of so many awesome couples.
The amazing teams at Owen House Wedding Barn, Heaton House Farm, Top Table Catering, Barretts Event Caterers, Vanilla In Allseasons – thank you for all of your help over the years.
Gav & the boys from The Rush, Nicola & Craig from Whitfield & Ward, Sarah Meredith MUA, Laura from Green Earth Flowers, Mat from Red Floral, Suzy & Ollie from The Word is Love, Mike and the team from Luminate, Lucy Wright Events – thanks for always answering the phone and saying ‘yes’.
Helen & Pete from We Are Life. For your incredible coding skills and for some amazing nights out and ‘back to yours for more wine’ when we should have gone straight home. Miss you guys.
To every single one of my incredible brides and grooms. Thank you for allowing me to share your special days with you. Thank you for trusting me and encouraging me to do ‘my thing’. You’re the reason that I can look back on a DECADE of wedding photography (and more years before that too!) and be proud.
Peace and love and stay safe everyone,
JD xxx
