So August was quite an exciting month for me – I’m a member of The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers, an international body for professional photographers who operate a recognised qualification system which I decided to tackle.

The SWPP run a program called ‘Mentor Me’ which is specifically there to give you professional critique and advice on your work during the process of applying for the first stage of qualification.

I submitted a panel of 20 images to ‘Mentor Me’ and was looking forward to receiving the feedback from the judges as to how I could improve my work and get it up the required standard to become a Licentiate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (LSWPP)

I received a call a few weeks after submitting my initial 20 images to advise me that I was being awarded LSWPP off the back of my ‘Mentor Me’ submission! I was absolutely delighted!

Here’s the certificate!

The qualification is the first tier to basically becoming a recognised master of your craft. It gets increasingly difficult to achieve the next level up (Associate and then Fellow) and years of perfecting your technique, but it’s a great target to work towards.

Here are the images I submitted to Mentor Me and then gained my LSWPP qualification from:
